Role Of Asphalt Batch Mix Plants In Road Constructions

21:44

When you drive on smooth quiet asphalt roads have you ever wondered what goes into the preparation of such beautiful roads? Let us take a sneak peek into the materials and process involved in obtaining the asphalt mix.

Asphalt mix is used for the construction of roads, pavements and parking lots. The asphalt mix is obtained in the asphalt Batch mixing plant. An asphalt mix consists of aggregates like gravel, stone and sand mixed with asphalt cement and other binders.

The main asphalt mix is of three types:

Cold mix: Cold mix asphalt is a mixture of mineral aggregate and asphalt emulsion. The asphalt emulsion is obtained by emulsifying asphalt in water and soap.

Asphalt Batch Plant - Operations and Components

21:50

The essential capacity or motivation behind asphalt batch mix plant is to create HMA otherwise called hot mix asphalt. It mixes together aggregates and bitumen to create the hot mix paving material.

The aggregates here can be a single sized material or it can be a blend of various grades/sizes of materials. Alongside mineral filler material better aggregates are likewise included. The coupling material otherwise called asphalt cement can be cutback asphalt, manufactured folios or emulsion.

Asphalt Drum Mix Plant for Road Building Sector

22:19
Asphalt Drum Mix Plant
The function of an Asphalt Plant will be to combine asphalt aggregates and other additives in essential proportion as per job mix formula and at elevated temperature to produce a homogeneous hot mix.

There are basically two kinds (based on layout) of Plants (1) Batch Mix Plant (Discontinuous type) and (2) Drum Combination Plant.(Continuous type)

In Asphalt Drum Mix Plant, heating and drying of aggregates occurs in rotary drum and heated aggregates are screened weighed & in hot bins for proportioning prior to mixing with binder in different pugmill type mixer to make up one batch.

In Drum kind Plant the heating, drying and combining of aggregates with the binder takes in the same drum where in feeding of aggregates & binders and production of hot mix asphalt is constant. This kind of plant gives higher production rate and is easy & simple to operate. They are more affordable compared to batch type plant.

Regardless the type of Asphalt Mixing Plant, the basic purpose is the same to make the quality hot mix asphalt to be utilized for road construction.

The fundamental components of Asphalt Drum Mix Plants are Multiple Chilly Aggregate Feeder Bins, Single Deck Scalping Display, Slinger Conveyor, Rotary Drum, Burner, and Load out Conveyor, Asphalt Tank, Mineral Filler Unit, Fuel Service Tank, Wet Scrubber and Control Panel with Insulated Control Cottage. These plants can be in mobile (portable) in addition to stationary variant to satisfy the customer's selection.

In Asphalt Batch Mix Plants, different size virgin aggregates are kept in multiple feeder bins. Each bin is fitted with belt conveyor driven by variable speed motor to preset the proportion of the aggregates to be discharged from every bin and manually controlled gates. Aggregates from all bins are received on collecting belt which transfers them on to single deck scalping screen for oversize material removal. The screened aggregates are then transferred to rotary drum by slinger conveyor. High pressure jet oil burner fitted at indeed side of the rotary drum dries & heats the aggregate in main zone of the drum. The heated aggregates subsequently go to the secondary zone (Coating zone) where they are blended with the pre metered binders (asphalt & additives) to produce the hot mix asphalt. The hot mix asphalt is transferred out conveyor or directly into the tipper by load to the storage silo. All the procedure of the plant is controlled from the control room by control panel.
